Position Summary
The Sewing Machine Operator is a key member of the production team, responsible for stitching high-quality products using industrial sewing machines. This role involves machine setup, operation, and maintenance while ensuring production quotas and quality standards are consistently met. Operators work closely with Line Leads and team members to maintain efficiency, accuracy, and safety across all sewing floor activities.
Compensation & Benefits
House of Holmes offers a competitive compensation package designed to support our team both professionally and personally. This position includes a salary range of $15.50-$26.50 per hour, depending on experience, along with access to medical, dental, and vision benefits. Team members also receive 40 hours of paid time off (PTO) and 40 hours of paid sick time each year. In addition, we are developing a performance-based bonus incentive program to reward employee productivity, efficiency, and contributions to team success. Key Responsibilities
Prepare for Daily Operations
- Set up and test machines at the start of each shift, including threading, tension adjustments, and needle/thread selection.
- Review production schedules and specifications to understand daily targets.
Operate Sewing Machines
- Stitch fabric pieces following patterns, templates, and quality guidelines.
- Perform multiple sewing techniques (straight, zigzag, decorative, etc.).
- Adjust machine settings in real time to ensure accuracy and smooth operation.
Ensure Quality Standards
- Inspect materials before stitching and conduct in-process quality checks.
- Trim threads, remove basting, and complete finishing tasks for polished products.
- Report defects promptly and maintain high-quality workmanship.
Collaborate with the Production Team
- Work with Line Leads and operators to achieve daily quotas.
- Communicate material shortages or workflow challenges.
- Support team members in meeting deadlines and maintaining smooth production flow.
Maintain & Troubleshoot Machines
- Perform routine maintenance (cleaning, oiling, rethreading, tension adjustments).
- Report malfunctions or significant issues to the Floor Manager.
- Keep drawers and stations stocked with assigned supplies.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols while operating machines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workstation.
- Participate in mandatory safety training sessions.
Tracking & Reporting
- Record production output, issues, and deviations in daily logs.
- Contribute feedback to improve efficiency and product quality.
- Assist with training new operators when needed.
Daily Expectations
- Set up and test machines at the start of each shift.
- Conduct in-process quality checks and ensure quota progress.
- Keep the workstation clean, safe, and organized.
- Maintain drawers with necessary supplies.
- Accurately log production output and issues.
Qualifications
Required
- 1+ year of sewing experience (industrial or home); 2 years preferred.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot industrial sewing machines.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to manage time in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
Preferred
- Experience with multiple machine types (single needle, overlock, etc.).
- Bilingual English/Spanish (eligible for pay differential).
- Willingness to learn new sewing techniques and advanced machinery.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time position, Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
- Part-time position, Fridays, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
- Includes a 30-minute lunch break.
